Posting Announcements in Canvas

Posting Announcements in Canvas

Introduction

This article walks through how to post a new announcement in a Canvas course.

Announcements Are Not Sent Immediately

Canvas allows users to set their own notification preferences, which may prevent them from receiving timely notifications. Unlike AsULearn, site administrators do not have the ability to configure default notification settings, or lock individual notification settings from being changed.

Notifications for Announcements are often sent in a daily digest, which is sent around 6:00 PM each day.

If a message is time-sensitive (class cancellation, a message that requires an immediate reply, etc), please use the Inbox feature instead.

Canvas Communication Limitation

Regardless of which communication method you use in Canvas, no notifications or emails will be sent unless the course is published and available to students. This means your course is not only published, but is also available based on the Participation settings in the course Settings area.

Using Announcements

1. In your course, click either Announcements in the course navigation, or the New Announcement button on course Home.
